Milwaukee Youth Theatre hires on a contract basis for each individual show or for the season. We look for people who are excited about expanding their experience and knowledge base. We welcome High School Juniors and Seniors, College students and professionals to apply for all positions. Theatre education students are highly encouraged to apply.

General qualifications

  • Experience working in desired position
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organization skills
  • Collaborative spirit
  • Must be able to work between the hours of 3pm- 8pm. 2-4 days a week, depending on the position. Somewhat flexible. 
  • Must pass a background check
  • Past experience with children, willing to teach and explain processes to student volunteers.

Staff position openings (Updated 06/03/2021)

Theatre Education Instructor

This position would be perfect for a college student looking for a paid internship, or a skilled theater instructor looking for an additional side job. Flexible part-time hours depending on MYT’s ebb and flow of programming. Hours would be evenings during the school year and may also involve some Saturdays. Workshops could be planned around the instructors schedule. $13/hour.

Duties

  • Plan and teach workshops
    • Girl Scout workshops
    • Pre-show workshops for school groups
    • General student open enrollment workshops
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of classes
  • Create education packets for educators
  • Support MYT production staff as needed

Qualifications

  • Education degree or degree in-progress (AA, BA, Theatre or any education specialty)
  • Google Suite experience (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working with kids ages 10-18

Office Administrator 

Part time position averaging 15-20 hrs. a month. Amount of hours varies from show months to non-show months. Starting wage is $12-$13/hr, depending on experience. 

Duties

  • Organize reservations and seating for shows
  • Parent volunteer coordinator
  • Communicate with parents of cast members
  • Communicate with partner schools
  • Some social media posting (Facebook, Instagram)
  • Respond to e-mails and phone calls

Qualifications

  • Google Suite experience (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills

If you are curious about theatre in general and MYT specifically, come join our team as a volunteer. You can make your own hours and find out which part of the theatre process interests you the most. Try your hand at everything.
